Giovannina M. Anthony, M.D.

After graduating with honors, she moved to Boston and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Harvard University teaching hospitals, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, where residents earn the title of Clinical Fellow in Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School.

In 1999, she moved into an attending physician role at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, where she taught ob/gyn to medical students and residents while conducting a busy private practice.

In 2005, Dr. Anthony came back west, joining the Women’s Health Center in Jackson, Wyoming, as a full time obstetrician and gynecologist. After eighteen years practicing full-spectrum women’s health and delivering thousands of babies here in Wyoming, she decided to end her career in obstetrics and launch GMA Health, here in Jackson Hole, transitioning to a personalized care/concierge model.

Her approach is unique: both comprehensive and grounded in the importance of communication and shared decision-making. She is well-known for taking time with patients to understand the mental, physical, and emotional components that make up a woman’s overall health. She believes that rigorous intellect and compassion are both critical components of healthcare delivery, and that comprehensive care requires time and attention.

Dr. Anthony has two decades’ experience in the reproductive justice space, and is an advocate and activist in Wyoming working to preserve the rights of women to bodily autonomy and reproductive choice. She was the first, and for many years the only, physician in Wyoming to provide medication abortion.

For her expertise in reproductive justice, she has been interviewed and quoted frequently by the national and local press, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, NPR, Politico, and NBC News Online. In 2022, she appeared on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee in a special segment addressing the legal issues surrounding reproductive choice. As a passionate advocate for abortion rights, she is a lead plaintiff in the ongoing legal fight to maintain the constitutionally guaranteed right of Wyoming women to make their own healthcare decisions.

Dr. Anthony has also written extensively for the local press on many women’s health issues, including libido, menopause, hormone replacement therapy, contraception, first-trimester pregnancy loss, infertility, vulvovaginal disease, postpartum depression, genetic screening during pregnancy, breast and cervical cancer, adolescent gynecology, and myths in pregnancy. For her expertise in women’s health, she has been quoted in national magazines, including Prevention, Glamour, and Marie Claire.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Anthony enjoys spending time with her family, as well as skiing, biking, climbing, and traveling. She feels privileged to call the spectacular Tetons home.
